Yes, we did it yesterday! In the morning fog, on a straight road in the middle of Uruguay we stepped on the hurdle of 5’000 km of this trip. Even if every week has its hard moments, things are getting easier.

Feet first into Santiago: El Camino del Norte on recumbent bicycles
From the 6th to the 22nd of July 2016 we cycled 893 kilometres from Bayonne to Santiago de Compostela, following mostly the northern way or camino del norte (with a few variations). 4’000 km
Little by little the summer wanes but our journeys in Alentejo are still full of fruits from the warm days. During the last 4 km before the four thousand kilometers milestone we collected grapes, olives and figs from road side trees.
Statistics – km, duration, speed…
I like to keep statistics: kilometers per day, time we pedal, average speed, money spent (divided into travel, eat, sleep and other categories).
So far, with the kilometer four thousand almost arriving and 55 days of cycling, these are the numbers:
- Each journey averages on 64 km (maximum 97 km, minimum 28 km)
- We cycle between 2h and 6h40 per day, not counting the stops (avg: 4h 40m)
- The global average speed is 14km/h, the fastest day we pace at 17.8km/h and the slowest to climb Serra da Estrela was 8.2km/h.
